How to make your bed like a hotel

Short answer: the hotel feeling lives in three layers: a mattress topper that evens things out, crisp percale bedding that breathes, and a duvet with the right weight. Make the bed taut and stand the pillow up against the headboard.

A hotel bed isn't made by chance. It's built in layers — and you can do the same at home.

1. Start with protection

A mattress protector keeps the mattress fresh and extends its life.

2. Add a mattress topper

A down-and-feather mattress topper softens the bed — the extra layer hotels add.

3. A smooth fitted sheet

A smooth fitted sheet in percale or Supima, crisp and cool against the skin.

4. A duvet with the right weight

A duvet that warms without weighing you down. Down breathes naturally; an allergy-friendly fibre is a reassuring alternative.

5. Pillows in layers

Build height with pillows in different sizes. Finish with pillowcases in the same weave as the duvet cover set.
